EH-IT ARTISTS’ RESIDENCY PROJECT 2026-2027

Are you an artist or a company looking for a space to develop a new creative idea focused on intercultural dialogue?
The Italian-Basque Artist Residency 2026–2027 project, promoted by Fondazione Entroterre ETS and Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa at Le Torri di Budrio, offers the ideal environment to bring it to life, allowing you to combine the energy of independent production with the unique value of participatory creation, experiment with and hybridize new artistic languages, and transform your artistic vision into a tangible reality.

The artist residency

The aim of the residency project is to provide a supportive environment in which a Basque traditional musician or musical group and an Italian electronic musician can undertake an artistic experience where both creators are able to share their sonic references and co-create an original and innovative artistic outcome, also with the support of an expert curator.

The stages of the project:

19 May | CALL LAUNCH: launch date of this CALL addressed to Basque artists by Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa.
Spring 2026 | Selection 1: selection of the candidate Basque artist/group by Fondazione Entroterre.
Summer 2026 | Selection 2: selection of the candidate Italian artist/group by Fondazione Entroterre. The selection does not take place through a public call; instead, the artist is chosen directly by the Foundation’s Board according to artistic criteria, with the aim of creating the best musical combination with the selected Basque artists.
September 2026 | The Residency: a one-week intensive working period in Italy, dedicated to artistic co-creation under the supervision of an expert curator. The duration of the residency may be reviewed based on the actual needs of the selected project. The residency includes moments of openness to the community, such as a workshop and a public performance to present the initial outcomes of the work.
Summer 2027: The outcome of the residency will be presented to the community in a final presentation. The results will also be shared with a network of professional partners (labels, producers, festivals) in order to develop touring opportunities and international promotion.
Tour 2027 | Promotion and Performance: the new creation will be presented in summer 2027 as part of the Entroterre Festival in Italy. Additional distribution opportunities will be sought through the network of involved partners.

Support and logistics

The residency provides a stimulating environment, and related professional facilities, at the Torri dell’Acqua in Budrio (located 30 km from the city of Bologna), an urban space created within a restored early 20th-century former aqueduct, now an outstanding cultural centre.

The Sala Ottagonale, located in the oldest tower, is known for its excellent acoustics, making it a privileged venue for recording sessions and concerts. In the basement level, a collection basin has been restored, preserving its original finishes; although below street level, it is very bright thanks to a fully glazed wall. The terraces offer versatile spaces for outdoor activities, with both circular and rectangular layouts. Among the most striking spaces are also a large exhibition area on the ground floor and two spaces in the basement, the first extending along the full length of the building and the second housed within the circular basin.

What the offer includes:
Workspaces: Access to rooms with excellent acoustics, already used as recording studios, equipped with basic technical setups (audio and lighting). Note: musical instruments (backline) are the responsibility of the artists.

Cost coverage and fees for Basque musicians:
Accommodation: Free stay in a fully equipped guesthouse for the entire duration of the residency (2026) and the final performance (2027).
Transport: Travel expenses covered for the artist/group from the Basque Country, both for the residency (2026) and the final performance (2027).
Fees: A daily fee is provided for a total of 10 days (7 in 2026, 3 in 2027).
